“I have been looking for good staff, it is so difficult to find right people in the market” – I have heard from many business owners and senior managers.

In one way this looks like accepting failure to attract and retain right people. This raised few questions in my mind, and in my conversation with experts I tried to get the answers. In this post, I am giving a 3E formula and few thoughts on how to Weed-out the Weeds, checkout.

Question #1: How to you select the right candidate?

Answer: Right candidate needs to have three E qualities

  •                 Experience: Someone with the right experience.
  •                 Education: Someone with relevant education.
  •                 Enthusiasm: Someone who is enthusiastic in building her career.

Experts say that out of these three E’s if someone has two E’s, he is good enough to become part of an effective team.

Question #2: My staff has no motivation, is it possible to revitalize dead teams?

Answer: People get motivated if given clear guidelines, responsibility and authority. Demoralization is the cause of unclear directions from seniors. Trick is to identify few enthusiasts in the team, motivate them and they will charge the rest.

Question #3: There are people who are just useless. No motivation, no enthusiasm and zero will to progress. What to do with this lot?

Answer: Organizational success depends on how effective your team is. Useless people are everywhere; it is the key responsibility at the top to weed them out soon. Effective managers cannot leave the sacking decision unattended. They are parasites, they look promising, but the fact is otherwise. Get rid of them as soon as possible.

In my view there are highly motivated, enthusiastic and energetic people around us. It is highly important to identify, hire and nurture those highly talented people. Recently, I was honored to meet Tony Buzan, creator of Mind Map. Tony has traveled in over 75 countries. He told me that he did not find even a single stupid person in this life!

In my view people behave negatively in negative environment. Primary job for any manager is to provide not only conducive, but also positive work environment and allow people not only to work harder, but also work smarter!

First time came to your blog and found it very interesting and educative, The leadership and inspirational qualities you mention here certainly ensure success, but here in Pakistan, even private institutes lack this criterion, may be just because of lack of training and proper education for leadership.
Anyway, thank you so much for sharing the post.
